Flea market finds - How do I clean these?

Picked these two up at a flea market today, but they need cleaned. What is the best way to clean these? Really my first venture into older knives. Sorry for the poor picture quality, I suck at taking pictures.

The first has a tang stamp of "SCHRADE/WALDEN/NY", 3 lines. Scales are an ivory color of some material that is kind of iridescent, by which I mean the look changes a little depending on the angle of the light striking it. 2 blades and a nail file. Paid $20 for it. Was that too much?

Second is a Camillus Cub Scout knife. Blade, awl, and opener/screwdriver. Paid $3 for this one.

Like I said, both need cleaned up. Question is, how?

Thanks,

Dave

I suggest what Bernard Levine and others suggest, a soft cloth and food grade mineral oil. Wipe the loose stuff off and lightly lube the joints.

If you post the Cub Scout knife over in the Camillus forum, possibly Tom WIlliams will see it and can give you an approximat date. On the Schrade Cut Co, it could be pyroline... celluloid or pearl plastic or MOP. Dunno and can't tell from the photo. Perhaps some one else can.

3 bucks is a good deal for the cub scout knife for sure:thumbup:
It looks like it's still pretty BLUE....
