went the local fflea market yesterday, and got all excited, thought i had found excellent deals on OT's, but it turns out it was some cheap china knife called "dakota". has the delrin handles, and the same style shield as OT's, but in the shield it says "dakota", and on the tang it says china!!! this fella had 6 of these knives and wanted $20 a pop for'em!!! no way!! these were worse than taylor fakes! sooo, after some more searching, i finally found some old "real" OT's, and even with broken tips, rust, no snap, and "bleached" handles, they were still wanting $15-$20 a piece!!! guess some of the old timers there finally realised that schrade isnt prducing knives anymore, but the price on these particular knives were just to much. i seen a copenhagen knife for $65!!!!! about a month ago the same guy wanted $8 for the same dang knife!! has anyone else had these problems lately?? it seems that prices have risen in the last couple of months on schrades at flea markets. i go to 4 different ones here in s.c., and the shrade supply is getting low, and the prices are getting high.

These guys do a lot of talking among themselves during set-up and take-down,or when business is slow, and they have gotten the word that Schrade is no more. Obviously, they want to get as much as they can for their Schrades, and you can't blame them for that, but you don't have to play or pay either. ISC has been out of the market as a supplying manufacturer for a bit over two years now, and most of the brick and mortar retailers have sold out their inventories, and most distributors have either shipped their last to their retailers or liquidated, leaving secondary market dealers as the only game in town. They seldom have to compete with Kmart and Wal-Mart any more, so it has become a seller's market, and they ask whatever they think they can get.

This said, there are still a few retailers with some limited stock. A member recently sent me a 36OT and SK36 he bought discounted at a local hardware, and I sent him an LB7 from my local dealer. Another member snagged a pair of clampacked 897UH's for me, all this month. So a small supply of primary source knives is still out there.

And of course there is Schradebay with almost always over a thousand listings for Schrades of every description. Many of those dealers bought pallets of knives from the two main buyers at the ISC auction back in '04, and new and interesting knives come up all the time. True, some of the listings are way overpriced, but quite a few each week go for very reasonable amounts. I recently got a NIB 5OT (1987-1998) for $15.50 and $5 shipping. It sold in 1987 for $29.95, and last MSRP in '98 was $44.95. It isn't a rare knife by any means with twelve years of production, but the 5OTG and 55OTG (green Delrin) which replaced it are much more common right now.

Good luck in your search!

I have found that some of the primary sources, especially the regional chain stores, think they are out of the old Schrades, but a knife or two shows up every now & again.
Last week I picked up a 5UH on close out for $9.98 from a regional chain store. I had personally picked that store clean several months ago. I asked the clerk where that knife came from & she said, "Some times they get transferred from store to store."
There are several stores that I check their knife display every time I go there just because they show up from time to time. Last week it paid off.
