Not wanting to hi-jack a thread I looked at, would anyone care to post pics of knives they've bought "on the cheap" at local yard sales or flea markets?

I've never considered looking but it might be something worth considering. :)

I don't have any pics, but I picked up a Terry Baublitz custom Hudson Bay Chief camp knife, at a local powwow. It was on his table with a bunch of junk knives. I picked up a Benchmade 550 CE, in okay condition, at Roots farmers market in Lancaster, PA. Not pennies on the dollar, but 30 bucks isn't bad for a knife in used condition without a box. Even got a balisong sheath with it.

At a flea market I got 5 Swiss Classic SDs for $10, albeit a few of them had company logos on them.

Craigslist has been the place where I have gotten my good stuff and basically doubled my collection. It was almost all from the same person, too.

From the first gal:

Kershaw Leek - $8
7 Leatherman Squirts - $21
Kershaw Chive - $3
Spyderco Ladybug - $2 :)
Leatherman Wave - $8
black Leatherman Supertool - $6
Victorinox Swisstool - $8
Proto multitool - $6
Leatherman Juice - $6

And a couple little gerbers and saks.

From another guy I bought about five saks and two Japanese folders for $25.

Here are pics of some of the stuff I scored from those two sellers

I don't have it with me right now to photograph, but I got a Gerber multi-tool at a garage sale. It was still in the belt pouch with "First Production Run" stencil. The seller said it was from a friend who was a Gerber sales rep for a while.

The scissors are terrible, but the rest of it is a nice knife/tool. The pliers are a little stiff. The wire cutter works well, way better than most wire cutters in pliers. It's fun to release the locks on the pliers and slide them out with a little wrist action like a gravity knife.

I got a Bear MGC Tanto Damascus Butterfly knife a few years ago for $5.

He was asking $10, but said he'd let it go for $5.

I gave that one away a year or two ago.

I need to look around more often, as I know I'm missing some deals.

Caffeinepirate - Wow I wish I had your Craigslist area code! ;)

dipbait - that's a major score on the Bush Ranger. I have a NIB from 1990, a convex beauty. I put it up for sale 2 x's for $90 and then took it back down immediately because I changed my mind, not before I had offers on the table. :)

"First Production Run" Gerber multi-tool and Bear MGC Tanto Damascus Butterfly knife a few years ago for $5!! Sweeeet!!

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Looks like I'll be reading Craigslist and waking up early to go out with the wife & daughter on their flea market, garage sale trips. :D

Thanks for the pics guys!

Picked up a mint condition Spyderco C05 Standard at a flea market for $10 bucks about 3 months ago. From the looks of the blade it doesn't appear the knife was ever used.

This is a cool thread. Great idea.

Old picture from the days before I had a camera. But this is my nicest flea market find. A nearly flawless two dot 110.

Perfect sheath.

$15 I think. Still had the factory edge when I got it (in 2006 according to the date stamps on the pictures).

I picked up a vgc Buck 110 with chisel grind and their Buckoat coating for $10 at Sally Ann's, plus the odd Vic classic here and there

Not a flea market or yard sale, but I recently bought some knives from someone on a fountain pen discussion list. Basically, I got a SwissTool, a Delica 1, a Vic Executive , a Wenger SAK I haven't been able to identify yet, and an old peanut (bone on the handles suffering from shrinkage) for $9 each. Probably over paid for the peanut. :)
No boxes for any of 'em, though.
My main interest was the Delica but I've found I also really like that SwissTool and the Executive. The SwissTool and the Delica looked like they were never used.

I've done fairly well at a fleamarket I like to go to on Sundays. It's a great ride on the scoot 50 mi. to get there on curvy back roads.

Picked up a Buck 3-liner with sheath $10, Schrade LB-5 (I think, same size as a 110) $10 w/sheath, 2-line Buck 102 $20 (not a fantastic deal but I wanted it), Buck kitchen knife with a fillet style blade $1, Henckels sharpening steel $1, SAK Classic $1 like new, too many Starrett tools to name them.

It never occurred to me to check Craigslist.

I just checked it, and it's interesting. There's a lot of cheap SAKs, a lot of junk, and a Leatherman Wave for $15.

I'm going to need to keep an eye on it now.
