Every year, during Fleet Week, the USS Kennedy shows ups and brings along
a few toys.
Well, the US Marines this year allowed you to play with their guns. It was cute watching litto 5 year olds hold a 24lb M249. Then there were these ghetto kids who made the supervising offcer roll his eyes. The M2 was MUCH bigger than I thought.

They also brought along a few vehicles and allowed you to get in the cockpit, etc.

Used the massive flght deck elevator to go up and there were a few jets, plus a few choppers you were allowed in. The USCG did a mock rescue for us in their Dolphin.

::salute to everyone serving :)

Saw a photo on Foxnews of the RST-V ,to be a replacement for the Humvee, in NYC traffic ,it would make an excellent cab for the city !! It is a hybrid diesel/electric with an electric motor for each wheel . .....I remember as a kid, just after the war, being on the carrier Ben Franklin . The ship was very heavily damaged in the Pacific but the crew were very determined to save her and brought her back to her home port of Brooklyn. That more than anything made me aware of what war was all about ! ...I salute all the veterans !!

Here in Norfolk, every week is Fleet Week ;)
Actually when I was living in NYC, I had the chance to hang out w/ some cool folks during Fleet Week. Enjoy & hats off.

LOL,

You only say gun once and then by some magical force of nature [with stripes on his arms], it becomes a rifle :D Glad you had fun.

LOL, I've made it a point the last few years to make sure I call infantry small arms "guns" in mixed military company- I can get away with it, but I'm always eager for an argument. It's one aspect of military vernacular that drives me nuts, so I'm on a one man crusade to change it!

Encarta says a "gun" is "a weapon, from a small handheld pistol to a large piece of artillery, with a metal tube through which bullets or missiles are fired by an explosive charge"...

Guns launch projectiles - somewhere, somebody - erroneously - decided Guns meant artillery, and the "this is my rifle, this is my gun", was born.

Trouble is, the line between rifles, automatic rifles and machine guns is distinctly blurry, and I will readily go toe to toe with anybody that wants to tell me my M16, M4 or M9 isn't a gun. To be sure, they are a rifle, a carbine and a pistol - they are also each emphatically guns.

Of course, I'm not in basic training anymore -if The Man tells you it's a rifle, it's probably best to refrain from calling it a gun - like Gunny Hartman said, " I will PT you until you Phuc*ing DIE."
