Hi guys!

A couple of months ago I found an old Fr. Hartkopf Solingen. It´s some kind of a pen knife. So a one layer. The handle material is a little bit strange. It looks like mother of pearl. But I think, it´s just acrylic or something like that.

Why I think, thats no mother of pearl? There´s some engraving in the handle. You see a monk and a church and there´s München written on it. that´s the sign of Munich, Bavaria.

I bought it for about five bucks. So that´s ok.

What do you think about the handle material?

Kind regards

Munchen is Munich, and the church is the Theaternkirche (Theater Church), one of Munichs most famous landmarks. It's right across from the Rezidence (the Royal Quarters of the King of Bavaria). I'd date the knife from the 70's - 80's. You used to be able to buy them at all the tobacco stores, but now they mostly sell SAKs.

Here's a picture of the church from last spring, on a Sunday morning, which is why there's no crowd.

Hi Eisman!

I know what that is... I´m living just 120 km away from München. I´m a real bavarian ;) I just didn´t want to tell about the Theaterkirche and the Münchner Kindl, because it´s just because of the handle...

Really? Hartkopf´s were sold in Tobacco stores? That´s new... thank you for the info :)

KInd regards

Gruss Gott, Andi-

I had one very close to that from Rothenberg odT (I lived in Steinach, about 8 km from there). I lost it to airport security here in the States. Carried it all over for 3-4 years. Picked it up in the early 80's. (I actually think I got it in Ansbach, but I could be wrong. Long time back.) It's a nice little knife, better than the SAKs (and I've given up a whole mess of those.)

Are the Weissewurst ready yet? (Can you tell I miss Bavaria?)

Kevin

Hi Kevin!

Thank you about the info. Now I know, that the knives are made for "interessting" places in Bavaria or Germany. They don´t have them in stock anymore, I think.

Seems you have been to Franken for some time. Nice place up there :)

"The Weisswurst may not survive the church-bell at noon" (Die Weißwurst darf das 12-Uhr-Läuten nicht erleben) - That´s the old term for the Weisswurst we use to say; now it´s about nine o'clock at the evening. No I had none, but I´m just drinking some nice bavarian Weissbier (Wheatbeer) ;)

I believe that you miss the time in Bavaria, it´s the nicest place to live, I´ve seen until now :)

Kind regards
Andi

Andi, come and spend a year in the West Kootenays in B.C.
You might be a mountain man with a bunch of knives and surrounded by as yet unaltered wilderness.
