Had an old knife blade that I made about 2 years ago. It has had 3 different handles, but I've never really liked any of them, so I took the last one off and the blade has been sitting in my cabinet since. Just for fun, I took it out to the garage and decided to try a 90 degree flex test. Ten flexes so far and no sign of breaking/cracking etc. When it had a handle, it was the best edge holding knife I have. It's also seen use as a throwing knife, and been subjected to at least 2 point first drops from 6 feet into concrete with no damage/chipping.

Nope, no chopper here. The blade is only 5" long. It will do a boat load of whittling though. Sorry, I don't have a way to post pics here. The steel is M2 HSS.

I use Google Web albums, it's free, easy to register for and you can directly upload pics from Picasa 3, a free image editing program.

Interesting! That's some pretty hard steel, I'm surprised that it didn't crack. Good stuff!

I agree with you on the edge holding.... ;)

Not only did it not crack, it didn't even take a set; returned to true after each flex. Fortunately, I have enough steel left for at least 2 more knives.

That 2' piece is actually intimidating. The 1' pieces are excellent.

I know what you mean. It took me a LONG time with an angle grinder just to get the initial cut in the 2".... Good stuff! I've asked a few makers if they would be willing to finish a knife for me out of it (I'm lazy), but no takers. I really can't blame them. :D So I'll keep doing it in my spare time...
