Talking about scabbard material.

Saw this poundable edging at a local Ace Hardware last month
and immediately thought it might be useful for sheaths.

I think tough is the key word.

Although they call it fiberglass, it feels more like Tyvek to me.
Whatever the fiber used, the binder is flexible rather than hard resin.

About 1/8" thick & 4" wide. Stiff. Dark green.
About $1 per foot length.
Comes in rolls.

My wife has a bunch of those pound-in edging pieces. They are pretty stiff. I don't know how you plan to mold them but, once done they should be just about the strongest sheath you could find any where.

Maybe you know where I might have read this idea. I can't remember where I read it. About using warm or hot salt water to form some of these plastics.

My GGrand father used to adjust his glasses temples with the hot salt water. I suppose it has something to do with the kind of plastic you are using.

Any way the edging pieces would be pretty much impervious to any weather problems.:)

I suspect what she has is not the same product.
This is intended for use as a strip rather than pieces.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of using it cut to shape, but remaining flat.
Maybe as the back of a sheath, or riveted together as in Clearblue's thread:

Thinner pieces could be cut to use as spacers on the edges to better fit to the blade.

I'd be surprised if this is hot-formable at any reasonable temperature.
