Flies and ears

So every time I go out and there are a bunch of flies, the little bastards always go for my damn ears. Talk about annoying.

Aside from a bandana, any other good solutions for it?

Either put deet on your ears or maybe one of these:

Break a leafy limb off and swat them. Or cut a hole in the seat of your pants to distract them :D

In spring when the gnats are terrible, I'll actually pop in foam earplugs when I'm outside. Not having them bzzzzz in my ears makes them almost tolerable when they fly up my nose.

WHat kind of flies? If we're talking about strawberry flies then your only option is to go where they're not. Other species will react, at different levels, to bug spray, but strawberry flies will sawrm no matter what and they don't stop unless you outrun them.

I always have a bug net with me, and I just wear it over my hair and ears, not pulling it down past my forehead. Keeps any those little bastards from bothering me, they dont usually pester my face much, and you dont even notice its there.

Alternatively you can drape a hand towel over your head. The little tunnel it makes at your face makes it easy to blow away any bugs going for your face, and if it's a hot day it's nice having a cold wet towel on your head anyway.

Australian slouch hat with the cork bobbles on it.

What do the cork bobbles do?

I think the idea is that they move back and forth like a horse tail to keep blowflies away. Heard some people put deet on the cork too, but I don't know. Aussie thing. I would just apply deet or get a headnet. I think someone on here did a little review on a headnet here in this forum the last couple of weeks, but I can't remember for sure.

i don't know, nor ever seen an Aussie wear one of those hats they're just for tourists.:p;)

BTW CWL an aussie slouch hat looks more like this. :D

Hahah, sure they don't wear 'em.

Next thing you'll tell me is that you don't exclusively drink Foster's beer while you spend the day cooking some shrimp on the barbie.

Paul Hogan waits daily at the airport, he's cooking prawns just for incoming tourists and returning Aussies. AND you get a cork hat and fosters can on arrival. Though they sometimes run out...so some of you may not have seen or received your arrival gifts. :D

Kind of looks like a bullfighters hat. Maybe it'll keep bulls away also.

Here is some history.

Wildewinds sorry to hijack.. back to the original post, over here we use chemical, physical, whatever we can get our hands on the flies a that bad. You can get full head nets to over a hat, bee keeper style, but that may be a bit full on.:D
