Just a quick video on flint and steel strikers, that you might already have. And how to make one from a file.

There are other things that work, but this is all I had handy!

thanks for the video. You inspired me to go out and make one. The flint is a rock I found up by the barn that sparks pretty well and the striker is an old file. I broke it in the vice, used an angle grinder to smooth the striking edge and round all the corners. I then used the drill press to make a lanyard hole.


I am gonna try to make a fire with it tomorrow. I will let you now how it goes.

Used my new flint and steel set last night on my PSK challenge. I will post some pics when the battery on my camera recharges.
 
So how do the sparks off flint and steel compare to the sparks from a ferro rod?
 
The sparks are ALOT weaker, they will not work like a ferro rod does. Two different fire methods.
