Resurrected an old flint edge double bit with some TLC, Osage Orange, and Red Oak. Hope you enjoy the build log and video.

I'd love to make a matching nessmuk axe, but it's been impossible to find smaller forged double bits. Any ideas where to look for one? Willing to sell or donate?

I must say thats a good looking axe and beautiful haft. Funny you should mention smaller db's and where to find them. I just brought 3 home today from the local metal recycler/hoarder. It took a few return visits before he had anything but I got those 3 and a fourth for ten bucks today. Good luck with your search, something will turn up eventually. I also like to mention my axe restoration hobby on occasion. I have been pleasantly surprised by the axe heads that have come my way through such conversations. All free I might add.

That haft is really nice. I like the flat sides on it. It should perform like an octagonal haft. I've never thought of using other woods to make up for Osage orange's shortcomings. It's a great, wood but difficult to find pieces long and straight enough for full size axes. You did an excellent job on this one.

Very nice woodworking skills and beautiful haft. I hand carved an osage handle for my boys axe. Tough stuff.

That's a great handle. I'm looking forward to my osage projects turning a darker orange with age. I even thought about setting this one in a window to speed up the process.

What kind of rope is that on the handle? How do you find you like the rope there? I had thought about doing that.

Did you swing that axe at any wood yet? I'd be interested to hear how it feels compared to hickory.
