Flint & Steel is the method in which you take a rock with a sharp edge and a piece of high carbon steel and flake off a piece of STEEL in the form of a spark to ignite tinder. The spark from the flint & steel method is generally weak and can be seen in its orange color compared to that of the white hot spark thrown from a firesteel (aka, metal match, misch metal, ferrocerium rod, etc.). That being said, flint & steel can be a more challenging fire method as the weaker spark limits your tinder choices...

Do you have to dry the mullen pith first, or was this a dead standing mullen?
