So its time for some new summer shoes. I usually buy the cheapest flip flops I can get but last year decided to upgrade to a pair of reefs. They didnt last any longer than the cheap ones! Iwas thinking about trying out a pair of strapped thongs like the chacos but my wife says they are girl or hippie shoes. She would have hated me in my college years rockin the birks. Anywho, anyone have a recommendation for some casual footwear????

I have always been a fan of teva's when it comes to sandals. Unfortunatly they no longer make my preferred version which is the nylon with clips rather than Velcro

I love my Chacos and highly recommend them but they do have a high arch. So if your flat footed or low arched will be uncomfortable.

I just got a pair of Teva ketavi flip flops in today that replaced my pair of Teva elixirs I had for 5 yrs and pretty much wore them all year with a few exceptions in the winter time. The only thing that wore out on the elixirs was the piece between your toes that keeps the flop on your foot. I wish I would have had a backup pair of those but they stopped making them. Teva makes really good flip flops and I have had most of the higher quality brands.

"Rainbow sandals" I know the rainbow is kind of shunned by many but they are made in a town i grew up in, right down the street actually. They are well respected in the surf industry and they have a lifetime replacement guarantee for the thong pulling out. They come in leather, foam rubber and combinations of both. They do require a breakin period but my pairs that I have had usually last upwards of 10 years. This is why they are costly, but worth it IMO. Check them out, for additional options. Cobain and Ocean Minded are also comfortable and reputable brands. If you want more all terrain types go for a teva or merrel branded sandal. There is always the berkinstocks, but they are too hippy for me :)

I wear my keens or tevas throughout most of the summer. IMO the keens are a little more comfortable for extended use/walking but the tevas look a touch classier.

Edit: to clarify, these are more of a sandal type than a flipflop or thong.

Yes chacos and Keen's are the only way to go im wearing my chacos now lol ive had this pair of keens Newport for 10+ years still going strong!

DUHHH, it just hit me that the piece between your toes is called the thong, boy am I an idiot! :stupid:

My wife has a pair of teva mush and freakn loves them. I like buying good footwear but have always cheaped out on flip flops. Not sure why really as I wear them 90% of the time in summer.

I like these, I have owned a lot of merrells in my day and I love them.

Don't look too waterproof though, something that you can go right in the water with and dries quick would be nice. I always wanted to try keen so maybe these,

My cousin still wears an old pair of tevas from the early 2000s, man those are lame, and always were pretty much. Hopefully you guys mean the new style with a good toe cap.

Naot are excellent sandels
And are made locally

So I have quite a few pairs and wear them all the time

I don't know about casual, but I'm going to try some "minimalist" outdoor sandals. These can be used to actually run in, but I'm thinking more for around camp or post-hiking sandals on the AT; possibly hiking around river areas so I won't get my hiking shoes wet. I'm trying a couple of "Unshoes" sandals and a pair of Luna Sandals. So far, I'm liking them, but I also run in "barefoot" Merrell shoes. Not the cheapest, but more secure than regular flip-flops and a lot lighter than my Chaco's.

I hate the thing between the toes so it is strapped Teva Sandals.

I picked up some Sandugo rubber slippers that are pretty cool inside the house.

I wear Keen Newports and they're great. One thing to remember though is that these shoes like to take on hitchikers so I find I have to slip them off to unload pebbles every now and again.

My buddy swears by chacos. He spent a summer in Belize at an archeological site and he wore nothing but his chacos.

Teva's and keen's here for outdoorsy stuff. I also have some vibrams five fingers but to be honest the sandals are a more practical choice.
