flip the clip...

There are probably a hundred pro's and cons and nobody would ever post anything if they knew everything, so OPINIONS is what I'm looking for.

I think there would be great benefit to putting the pocket clip on the other end of the samd side it's on, over the locking mech. Maybe it's just because its what I'm used to, but it seems more ergonomic for the whole pulling it out of the pocket and getting it open process. The only thing I can think of is that it might be strange when holding/using the knife. I'm sure alterations to the shape of the clip would fix any discomfort during use.

ONE thing that will probably curdle some folks blood is that I cant stand the rope that came on the end. It's like a $300 flag sticking out of your pocket saying SWIPE ME! So, I guess this topic would only apply to those who dont use the rope. Before anyone sends back HATEmail, please just try this:

hold your seby (mine is the small standard) by the hinge with your forefinger and thumb with the clip on the thumb side. Do a pulling out of your pocket motion... as you pivot the closed handle into your palm (or after you pivot it into your palm) push the blade out. The whole motion done swiftly kinda pulls the blade and the haddle out of eachother... like the force is on both at the same time... it goes rght in the proper place in the hand, ready for use...

It seems like the whole motion of getting the sebenza out and ready "as is" takes a few motions INCLUDING scooching your fingers to the proper place on the handle BEFORE even being able to open the blade... Its like you lose your hold for a second.

Any thoughts?

Get G2 to make you a sheath. He can make one anyway you want the blade to be carried...tip up or tip down....sideways....just about anyway you can think of. Personally, at the office the sheeple still did't like seeing the small sebenza rig on my belt. Oh well, it fits pretty discretely in the front pocket, sans the clip....I can't stand the clip.

archieblue....this gets back to the old argument of tip up versus tip down carry...you obviously prefer tip down carry and i on the other hand prefer tip up carry...i just cant get used to the clip on a knife being on the pivot end of a knife...it just doesn't work for me and i feel like i am fumbling to get the knife into action...some people like both clip placements and it doesn't matter to them as long as the knife has a clip...others can't stand a clip at all...it really gets down to personal preference....sorta like toilet paper--->does the leading sheet go over or go under?

The Sebenza would most likely be the only working folder I' d carry if it had a tip down carry feature/ option. The clip would help act as an additional area of leverage for the 3 resting fingers when trying to close the Sebbie. For those who carry a BM Pinnacle as well, give it a comaparison test to see what I mean.

When I can carry ONLY a folder for whatever the reason/ situation, it must be in a tip down carry position. For myself it is the only way to go for a rapid deployment if called for. But to all his/ her own.

I had contemplated having the respective scale tapped and drilled professionally for the mounting of a BM pocket clip. It would work perfect. However, such a modification or any other type would VOID any warranty from CR Knives. I doubt that such a modification would affect the function and structural integrity of the Sebbie but one never knows if there will be any other unrelated problem down the line. Only then will one find it quite an expense to have any warranty/ repair work done.

Perhaps CR Knives can offer this service done at their company to avoid any warranty issues. If the cost was relatively modest, I' d send it in in a heartbeat. What do you all tip down carry people think?

This has been a big issue for me. I've asked Chris if he would consider making a tip-down Sebenza. His reply in a thread I started on KFC was:

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">The criticisms that are leveled against the placement of the clip are understood. However, as the designer of the knife, I placed the clip in the area where I deemed it most appropriate. I chose a clip that is slim and that fitted into a recess so that it would be unobtrusive but convenient. If the clip were placed on the pivot end, it would get in the way while the knife was being used --please remember that it is my intention that these knives be USED - Sebenza means "Work". I prefer to have the knife in my hand ready to open as I pull it from my pocket rather than to have to turn it around. There is insufficient space on the small Sebenza to accommodate a clip on the pivot end."</font>

As long as the screw holding the clip on does not touch the blade, I dont see a problem. Don't get me wrong... I don't know JACK about making knives, but that's not the point... you dont make knives for prople who could make it themselves. I realize that the pivot screw COULD be in the way, but it also COULD be moved a bit. IT IS a "work in progress," isnt it? I'm not asking anyone to move mountains. I'm not even asking anyone to alter any knife... I'm just saying "would'nt it be nice." Discussing preferences... Some people PREFER to use their left hand. Some makers just don't make certain knives for lefty's...

If
If
If

If a frog had wings, it wouldnt bump it's ass when it hopped.

It seems to me that Chris' answer should have been "That's just not what I wanna do at this point." Or that his OPINION (at this point, the only one that matters) is that the way he makes them is the best way.

I'm a tip-up only kind of guy, so this is a non-issue for me, but that could work. I have a spare BM clip sitting here, and placed it on the pivot end just to see. It would make for a good fit, but, IMO, destroys the ergonomics of the knife. Feels very uncomfortable in the hand. This clip is for a 710HS. The smaller flatter clip on the Spyderco SS Dragonfly might be a little more comfortable.
Maybe something along the lines of the Kangaroo pouch would make tip-down carry convenient without sacrificing grip comfort or security, since there would be no clip on the knife.
