Flipper and Thumb Studs for your pocket knife

I much prefer the clean look of no thumb studs on my flippers. Take the Subjigator vs the Beacon. Very similar knives, yet I find the Beacon so much more appealing In every way.

I'm the opposite - won't buy a flipper that doesn't have studs or an opening hole. Sure, a dedicated flipper may have a "cleaner" look; but I find other opening mechanisms more functional...and, therefore, more desirable.

Edited to add: *Note - I don't use my knives as fidget toys; so the so called fidget factor didn't come into play for me.

^^ Because using the flipper is too hard? I use my ThumbStudless knives too…

I’m an either/or kind of guy on this. If it’s got a flipper it doesn’t need a stud, and vice versa. Both just looks cluttered to me.

“Flipper and thumb stud meet different needs”. Lol, not really.

^^ Same. I’ve got plenty of ThumbStud-only knives like the Esprit. Vast majority are flipper-only though - the way I like ‘em. :)

I enjoy a clean flipper but I also like choices. I’m not the biggest thumb stud fan, but I like a flipper with an opening hole/slot (doesn’t have to be round). Sometimes I just like to slow roll the knife open more discretely.

Opening hole also doesn’t get in the way of cutting or sharpening like thumb studs sometimes do.

Me too. Besides looking messy, I don't like superfluous doodads on either knives or guns.

I prefer a flipper. Thumb studs are okay. Having both is usually a deal-breaker for me.

I find flipper tabs more functional but sometimes get in the way. I can use studs or holes fine but in general seem to require more dexterity. As long as the blade doesn't completely disappear in handle they can usually be pulled out with fingers if you don't want to scare anyone or draw attention 😊

You're welcome to them (flippers, that is)... Your knives, use what you like.

I don't particularly like flippers; so I prefer to have other options available to me. Simple isn't it? Live and let live.

Flippers must be easy to manufacture as virtually every new modern folder is a flipper. I prefer thumb studs, etc.

While i don't care about multiple opening methods on one knife, i appreciate the fact WeKnife and civivi offers different options..
Still, one is missing : how about a thumb hole deployement WeKnife ?

Just restating your original post but curious how are studs more functional for you?

yup...not a belt and suspenders kind of guy myself, either.

I tend to like streamlined designs in whatever way they happen to manifest, however at this point I will appreciate anything that isn't clownish.
