Hi guys,

Yes, i know about the Domino and even though it seems nice it also seems a bit too wide!
The reason why i never liked the Sage 1 was also because of that.
Different strokes for different folks i guess :)
So i had a Chaparral once but to fund something else i sold it.
I never forgot about it so i bought another :D
The knife is great for me.
Small, thin, elegant cuts like hell...BUT it's not perfect.
I know, none is :)
I would love it to be liner/compression lock with a flipper! That would be PERFECT!
Am i the only one who wants one? :D

I don't really care for flippers, don't like how they stick out and ruins the lines, but I have often thought about how awesome the Chap would be with a compression lock. Everything else the same just compression lock, unfourtinetly it would make it significantly wider but I'd put up with it.
That would probabily be my favorite small knife if it existed.

I want more Spyderco flippers in general. No qualms about the higher end knives.

An exact 3" blade Southard flipper with CF or Titanium in lieu of the ugly brown G10. The design of the Southard blade gives you the full blade length as the cutting edge plus a very narrow profile so it takes up very little space in your pocket.

In my opinion, the Domino went with too wide a blade taking up space in your pocket plus they went with a 3.13" blade length which puts outside the legal length of 3" in municipalities like Los Angeles. Also, the cutting edge is only 2.89".

Thin and narrow flippers with narrow blades would have both Chaparral and Caly 3 as good candidates as well.

I'd like the Domino more if it had a narrower blade like the Chap, slighly longer too. Not knocking it just what I like. Perhaps a Domino w/ redesigned blade would be what you want? Comp lock version would be intersting too.

A smaller Southard would be awesome!
I will never buy a Southard because of it's size.
It's just a pricey knife to have stored. I only EDC 3"ers

yes, a redesigned domino would probably be a good idea but still the blade to handle ratio is better on the Chap.

I would love to see a linerlock flipper in a Caly 3/3.5 or Native 5 chassis. That would be compact, lightweight and awesome.

I won't buy flippers. They make no sense to me, since the Spydie hole works so well, and they could conceivably help open the knife in your pocket.
I would see a flipper on a Chaparral as ruining a perfectly fine knife...one of my faves.

100% agree

I'd vote no. I don't like flippers, and putting one on would inevitably lead to a lock being used that favors one hand over the other; being left handed, I would likely be in the group that does not get favored.

I would, however, like to see the Chaparral with lignum vitae or ironwood scales.

Yeah, also I said a slightly longer Domino blade to better that ratio

I'd like to keep the Chap a back lock, particularly because its one of the couple spyderco's that employ that stabilizer pin (not sure what its called) to prevent vertical play.

The only experience I have with a flipper knife is from the Kershaw OD-2. I actually like the knife. It's inexpensive and the flipper mechanism works well. I like how it's not part of the blade and disappears when the blade is deployed.

I love flipper knives (ZT 566 for one) BUT Spyderco's don't need a flipper because of the lovely Spydie hole.

I don't really care for the flippers, and we're going to have a hard time having a flipper Chap since it's a mid lock. It's doable, just gonna ruin the original design.

Actually, I would want something like a bigger techno. Non flipper, solid ti-frame lock, thick 3-3.5" XHP blade with thin flat/high-hollow grind. And maybe a sculptured clip. That's going to be a big money folder, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a winner, too.

I doubt they would call it a Chaparral if they did make a small flipper with similar ergonomics. I suspect a smaller version of the Domino but slimmer, perhaps with G-10 instead of CF, S35V or XHP steel and a price tag around $150. Give it a wire clip and I'm happy.

Have no need for, or interest in, alternate opening devices on a Chaparral, but porpoise skin might make an interesting scale material for one.
