While it's true that a flipper can be used with absolutely zero wrist action, this can be difficult to achieve. It took me a bit of practice to get zero wrist motion on my M16 (at least, where the blade opens pointing up. It's easy if you open it to the blade pinting down).
Flippers are very cool and offer other advantages than speed. Ultimately, however, with practice, you'll discard flippers/holes/studs etc for wrist action alone. Eventually, you should be able to actually make your cut during the intertial opening itself and then flick it closed.
