Hi there.
So I'm looking for a flipper knife under $50 preferably (so a folder that has a stud on the blade that is pushed by the index finger), though I can do $60 if need be, and was wondering if anybody had any good recommendations. Also, frame locks over liner locks please. This blade would be for EDC.
As well, would a manual flipper be as fast as a spring assisted opening flipper? If so, I'd much prefer a manual.
Thanks.

(I've heard good things about Kershaw Cryo and Kershaw Thermite, but I don't really see the difference between the 2 blades. Please don't let these 2 influence recommendation though. ;))

A good manual flipper is just as fast (or faster) than an assisted knife and is far easier to close. Besides, half the enjoyment I get out of a good manual flipper is how precisely made and how smooth it is - assisted knives feel (note: I said FEEL, not "seem" or "are") like a bandaid for poor pivot action.

Kershaw pretty much dominates the market on cheaper-but-good manual flippers: Zing, Groove**, RAM**, Chill, Skyline, and more. Go to BladeHQ and go to Kershaw > Folding (Manual) and you'll find a number of flippers.
CRKT has some impressive ones, however, with the Carajas, Ikoma Sampa, Ripple, and Swindle. You might find a Foresight in that price range as well.
Very cheap and high quality, but at the cost of having no warranty, is the Enlan EL-01.

** discontinued

EDIT: Kershaw Junkyard Dog, as well.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, Tanto or modified Tanto point is preferred (Spanto too I guess).
That Damascus has got funny point to it. What is it exactly?

Thermite is quite a bit larger than the Cryo and has G10 scale on the back side.. Cryo II is a good bet as well - all metal like the smaller Cryo.

Manual? Skyline for pricey. Chill or Zing for inexpensive but usable.
All well within your price range.

Ooh, yeah. Thanks Comeuppance for that suggestion. I like that. Any problems or issues with it before I get it?

None whatsoever. Mine was a perfect flipper with rock solid lockup, smooth pivot, and perfect centering right out of the box. I would order from Kershawguy even if you can find it cheaper elsewhere just because he personally inspects each and every knife prior to sending it out.

To the OP The Tanto Zing is an awesome knife. I carried the crap out of it. It takes a beating and keeps on going. I never liked tantos before I had this but the tanto on this blade is done well. @ spydercobenchmadekai Thats a cool scale on the Thermite. I could never warm up to the Thermite though. I might try it out again.

I think for a cheap manual flipper, definitely recommend one of the CRKT flipper models. I have the swindle and it flips super fast and smooth, I cant get it to ever not fully open.

@spydercobenchmadekai (jeez, how many more knife companies u gonna fit in there man?) yeah, i've heard good things about the thermite, but i guess i really prefer a manual. (plus i don't really like the scale on just 1 side of the handle)
@hapasnyper As for CRKT as a company, mixed reviews on this forum based on some design probs and blade steel (i dunno, i've never bought a CRKT knife, maybe in future though)
But yeah, really like the look of the Kershaw black tanto zing (ty again to Comeuppance for recommendation and Nic S for second opinion) and i've got an order placed. So i'll post again when i get it.
Cheers all, and many thanks all round.

Mine is a manual! You have to drill a detent hole, but still, it's possible. Jist sayin'! ;)

I dunno man, I like keeping my knives stock. Anyhow, @Comeuppance, just realized kershawguy only ships to US (I'm Canadian GO CANADA GO). bladehq ok?
