Flipper on Trance, what's the point?

I know it turns into a wonderful finger guard when its opened, but does anyone use the flipper to open it? If so, why? And how? Every way I've tried to open it using the flipper, I need to add a substantial wrist flick. And I can always open it faster and more reliably using the thumb studs. What am I missing?

Otherwise, its a fantastic bargain. I now own the subcom, wharcom, subclaw, m-type, hyper, lava, and now the trance. Out of the CLBs I own, the Trance has the best feel in the hand, and I like how the cutting edge is slightly lower compared to most folders. As mentioned in other threads, Boker needs to release some premium steel versions of these great knives (all the CLBs, not just the Trance).

Aloha s.c.,

Mahalo for your kind words and support! I basically use the "ala Carsen" Flipper 98% of the time...I have said it from the get go that using the Trance Flipper requires a bit more "oomph" to open the knife since the blade is so light. So...you are not missing a thing.

Initially, the Trance was the "frame" for Boker's first AO...but it was kept manual.

Premium steels equate to a premium price though...*gulp*.

God bless and mahalo!

Oddly on a fluke I was able to find just the right spot on the thumb stud and open it with just my thumb, no wrist flick. It has taken a few practice openings but I am able to open that way now . And I just LOVE the short fat blade on the Trance :D.

I agree.
I really can't get the Trance to lock open with just the flipper and no wrist action.
But I really like the way the flipper acts a front guard!
Simply a wonderful design.

I also like how the wide handle of the Trace prevents the knife from easily twisting in the hand.
The Trance has joined my Custom Shoppe Buck 110 for EDC status!

Ah, the design makes so much more sense then. I really wish boker went ahead with the AO. Wishing it was AO was actually my first thought upon handling the Trance as the flipper reminded me of Kershaw AOs. I should stop calling it a flipper though, to me its a finger guard that happens to stick out when closed. I also wish the holes evident on the steel side of the handle were also on the FRN side, wouldv've been nice for indexing and grip. Anyway, thanks for all the great designs over the past few years.

Yo XD45,

No "fluke" my man...I can open my Trance's with the thumbstuds as fast if not faster than any AO or Auto for that matter!;) My buddy SOG Revolver inventor Robbie Roberson stated once that, "The Trance had the most perfectly located thumbstuds he ever found on a folder." Now THAT is a major compliment.

Mahalo and keep enjoying your Trance bro!

Mahalo allenC,

Also, in addition to what you mentioned about the Trance it practically disappears if placed loose in pocket and doesn't print when clipped to it.;)

God bless and thanks!

Well now, an AO eh? Hmmmmmmmm...there *might* be one in the works, and has been for too long IMHO, but ahhhhhhh, who knows...;);)

Thank YOU for all your support and God bless!

Darn you guys...now I have to go get a Trance...
I think I need therapy.

Aloha pedalinbob,

Nah...just get a Trance and then while you are driving and stuck in traffic, or watching TV, you'll be flipping open the Trance all the time! That my friend, is Knifenut Therapy!!!

God bless and thanks for tuning in!
