(This might be a bit long)
I'd like to ask for recommendations on a flipper. I'll say more about what I'm looking for. Bit of a story first.
In several decades of collecting knives, I'm just now getting interested in flippers. I saw an ad for the Chaves Ultramar T.A.K. I liked its bad-ass chunky design, even liked the skull clip. But when it arrived, I was very disappointed. It's really hard to deploy, almost as if there's a magnet holding the blade shut. I have to press so hard, my index finger turns white around the flip tab. Gunny Glide hasn't helped.
When I looked into video reviews of flippers, I saw how easily they can open, and fall shut. So I'm convinced my T.A.K. needs work or something. Maybe there's a person who can tweak these?
But I'm willing to try at least one other flipper. I've got some ideas of what I'd like.
--$800 max. Regardless of price, I want good QC, because I can't do tweaks or repairs.
--Made overseas is OK.
--Good smooth out-of-the-box action. I notice people talking about ceramic and double-row bearings. Not sure if that's necessary. Lol, Arizona Custom Knives has these kinds of offerings, I could eventually buy a knife with these. But unfortunately I don't have the time to learn how to take apart knives to do the swaps.
--Relative maintenance free. About all I myself can do is wash, dry and lube, nothing fancy.
--I'd like a simple design. this is not a show-stopper, but I like the profile of the Medford M-48 (but with better action), or the Pro-Tech Malibu (but obtainable).
--Prominent flipper tab. I have a Buck where the flipper tab is too small, and it doesn't generate the leverage or snap needed. A knurled or textured tab is a plus.
--No thumb studs or Spidey-type holes or tanto blade shape on this first flipper.
--For my type of use, I prefer slicier blades.
Thanks to everyone who responds!!
