Flipper Safe for Pocket Carry?

I prefer manual opening, clean lined folders.

I got my first flipper yesterday, a ZT 0200. When I carry it tip down, the flipper wants to open the blade when I'm putting the knife in my pocket. When I carry tip up, the flipper wants to open while the knife is pulled out of my pocket.

After messing with this knife for several hours, I don't feel like there is a safe way to carry it. It seems like people love flippers, what am I doing wrong?

I absolutely love this rock solid beast of a knife and really want to wear it :o

Where is it that you're carrying the knife? The 0200 has quite a heavy blade, and without a really strong detent, could be motivated out of the handle relatively easily. I personally have never had a problem carrying flippers tip up in my right front pocket. Worst case then, if it were to begin opening upon draw, it would slide spine against your pocket seam, and open safely, sort of like an Emerson, just not waving.

Sounds like it's the thumbstud catching on your pocket ssomehow. Putting the knife in your pocket tip down the flipper would be keeping the knife closed. Same thing drawing the knife tip up.

Unless you have your finger on the flipper as your putting it in or taking it out. And just accidentally pushing it.

This sounds to me like an issue with the detent on the knife more than something wrong with the flipper.
Take it out of your pocket and try and shake the blade out of the handle. If it comes out easily without you having to shake it too much, then your detent is very weak, and that's your issue.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what is causing it, because I've never had that issue with any of my flippers.

The 200 I had was the same way. No real detent. I could never warm up to it because I was afraid of it opening when I didn't intend. Sold it. ZT has other flippers that are great to carry. 0560 is my favorite. No way either of mine will open unless I want them to.

The 200 has a notoriously weak detent.

Fair enough. The only one of them I've ever had was somewhat newer, and didn't really have any issue with the detent, so I didn't realize that this was a common issue.
