Hi ,
I believe flipper knives are legal to own in the UK although not to carry in public. I am considering buying a Ganzo Firebird FH11 from Gearbest but have heard that flipper knives may be confiscated by UK customs . Has anyone had any experience of buying flipper knives from abroad ? or indeed any comment on owning them in the UK.

I believe the linerlock makes it a no go in the UK.
Here's an intersting read about UK legal knives.

Thats a good article , It does state that locking knives are illegal to carry , but not to own ( just like a fixed blade ) My question is about owning but not carrying a flipper knife in the UK. Would it be classed as a "flick knife" and would customs be likely to confiscate it ?

I live in a NE US jurisdiction that has complicated and hostile knife laws. When trying to find out just exactly what the law included, meant and how it worked regarding a couple specific points (just like your situation), I ended up having to find and get answers from a couple knowledgable police officers. In the end, they were the only ones who really knew the law and what they were taking about. I found that local (city, town, county) police were surprisingly ignorant, but the state police were quite knowledgable--even about the “gray areas” that can be interpreted and treated in radically different ways (that could result in anything from no problems to serious negative consequences for me) by police and judges. If your independent research doesn’t get you the concrete answers you need, finding knowledgable police or customs officers may end up being what you need to do. Good luck with your information quest.
