This is probably going to seem like one of those "Doh!" posts, but bear with me. 
Having carried my Junkyard Dog II for a good while before getting an ENER-G II, I found it took a while to master operation of the ENER-G II's flipper. Having also seen a couple posts where people mentioned having some problem opening the ENER-G II, I thought I'd post a couple photos showing what I've found to be the best way, and the wrong way.
I find the ENER-G II opens best if I use the side of my index finger, a bit below the very tip and above the first small finger joint. This also places the index finger at about a 45 degree angle to the knife, making it easier for me to overcome the blade detent and pop the knife open with authority:
The JYD2 works better using the very tip of the finger, with the finger oriented more parallel to the knife. With the ENER-G II this doesn't give as much mechanical advantage, and really only works if you're willing to sacrifice your fingernail at the end of the stroke.
