A lot of people have trouble flipping their Hinderer due to the weak detent. I just wanted to share my method that works consistently to give me a snappy flipping action. I should also mention that I still don't consider this a good flipper, just because it does require a special technique.

I apologize in advance for the video quality, I recorded this with a potato. Hope it helps someone.

Good trick, of all the knives with flippers I've owned there is no single technique that works across the board. Just because this (like all others) is designed differently, I don't agree it's any better or worse. All good, all different.

Bpeezer always good to have intel on specifics that work on a specific knife. Thanks for posting

My Hinderers both flip great. Using the "lightswitch" or "push button" method. But they didn't when they were fresh out of the box. You have to "set them up" by stripping, cleaning, lubing and adjusting the pivot tension. I had to "set up" a Curtiss I recently got also to get it to flip well. And there was nothing wrong with it. When these things come from the shop there is often material in the mechanisms, lube has dried up etc. Lots of knives, and other mechanical things require this sort of thing to work their absolute best.

Nice video, as many before you have found, this method does work well on the XMs. One correction, you state "everyone complains that because of the weak detent you can't flip it really well". I wouldn't say anything close to that personally, I'd actually say there is a very small vocal minority that complain about their issues flipping the XM. To those, I hope they watch your video and learn something, I wouldn't necessarily count on it though.

You can open an XM in a variety of ways, the flipper is one of them. It truly serves as a finger guard first.
