Does anyone have a positive experience with Flitz on dlc coating. I want to remove a blemish on my ZT 393 as it has rubbed against the scales for unknown reasons. After some extensive researches for some suggestion, i tried No 2 eraser, rubbing alchohol/acetone and mineral oil but it didn't work on removing the material that has embedded in the dlc. But a lot suggest for Flitz though. Does it work wonders on DLC?

That looks like wear to me. If it is, you can't take it off.

The picture doesn’t do it justice. The blade lightly rubbed against the scale. I don’t think with a slight contact it would wears out the coating that easily. I can see particulates stuck in the dlc. But seems like nothing can get them out.

The problem occurred when i realized that ZT didn’t put any kind of loctite on the pivot. Therefore, after awhile it loosens up without me realizing...

OK- if a pencil eraser didn't remove it, Flitz probably won't.
Remember-any time you use an abrasive you are removing material (even DLC)-and regardless what it says on the package, Flitz IS abrasive.

What is the material the blade has been rubbing on?

Probably titanium, as it is what the scales or in this case liners are made out of. If, what you said, its true despite some claims ive read on other forums (ie spyderco) i think i wouldn’t risk it and probably live with it.

Flitz is much less abrasive than a pencil eraser, but it definitely is abrasive.
You can't polish without abrasion.
A better and easier solution might be removing the offending handle material.

Pardon me for my stupidity, but i don’t really understand by what you mean by removing the handle material. Are you implying to grind off where my blade is rubbing onto? That is kinda extreme! I did put some loctite on the pivot and tighten it so it wouldn’t rubbed any further.

So, i wasn’t able to remove that pesky mark. I ended up polishing both side with Flitz and add a DIY stonewash to it... It looks quite nice actually.

Staedtler erasers are better than the common pencil erasers. They probably would not help in this case though.

Yea, even after some polishing that almost shows the bear metal underneath, i cant still see the marking. :(

I cannot believe a slight rub would damage the dlc that much. Oh well.
