Flitz on stabilized wood; carbon fiber (Benchmade 690)

After babying my new Benchmade 690 (the Elishewitz one with carbon fiber and rose-colored stabilized wood) for two months, I'm ready to do some tweaking.

The wood and CF scales are very matte. I've taken 600-grit sandpaper and wood oil to it, and it's improved a bit... at least the edges are rounded instead of sharp, and the wood grain is more apparent.

My goal is to get both surfaces much glossier, kind of like the finish that stabilized wood on custom knives has, and riceboy replacement carbon fibre panels.

I remember someone here mentioning using jeweler's rouge or watch paste on the scales... has anyone tried Flitz? I understand it's a chrome polish... and it's pretty much the only thing I can find in stores around here.

Would it work, or might it do some damage?

Thanks!

If I remember right, the instructions on the Flitz label explicitly says it is not for use on wood, plastic, or other natural materials. I have always gone to length to keep it off of wood handles.

Just score yourself some 800 and 1000 grit wet/dry, then go to 0000 steel wool along with the wood finishing oil.

You won't be able to get that glossy finish on your carbon fiber. That is a clear layer that they set up over the top and polish. You can try sealing your CF with super glue and then fine sanding, but I don't know how it would turn out.

Yes, I used Polywatch... But just on the wood. You won't get the carbon shiny, whatever you try. I can certainly live with the way mine looks now. If you're going to use fine steel-wool, be sure to remove the scales first. This means total disassembly and you may want to consider if you're ready for that.

I carried mine today and I like the knife more and more; it's smooth, feels solid as a brick and cuts frighteningly easy... :)
