I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience using Flitz polish on a black coated knife blade? I'm looking to clean mine up, but I don't want to wipe off blade coating, just other gunk? Anyone have any suggestions?

You will not have to worry about rubbing the finish off if it is a DLC coating. I generally use Windex on mine. I have used Mothers mag polish, but that left uneven splotches on the blade. A lot of the "scratches" you see on a dlc coated blade are not scratches in the coating, rather the material the coating rubbed against was scratched by the dlc.

Anything that is a "polish" does so, by making it smaller. They all contain some sort of abrasive, no matter how fine.

Your only other choices are soaps or solvents.

I have used Flitz and did not have any trouble with the black coating until I used a lot of pressure and kept on rubbing

Never used metal polish on a coated blade but I have had no problems wiping of gunk and sticky materials off of coated blades with a rag, WD40 and a little elbow grease. You can also try some ” Goo Gone” or even some acetone or turpentine.

Thanks for the advise. I'll go with the windex or goo gone first. Honestly those didn't occure to me at first.
