This is a bit off topic, but the entire state of Florida was under a blanket of smoke today. There is a wild fire in 57 of the 67 counties in Florida. I woke up this morning to semi-clear skies, but the acrid smell of smoke filled the air. Sorry there are not any knife pics in this thread.

Here are some pics of downtown Tampa as the smoke rolled in this morning (notice you can see only about a block to a block and a half):

These two pics are out of my office window looking at the University of Tampa. The first one is while the smoke was the heaviest (you can see the building as a ghostly apperence, the second pic is after the smoke cleared a bit.

Thanks for that cool shot of Plant Hall.

I was graduated from UT in 1978. I had set up a Frisbee Golf course in Plant Park down there in front of Plant Hall in that pic. My dorm was McKay Hall, on the river, to the right, out of your picture.

I haven't been back to Tampa since then, I would like to get down there again sometime and see how things have changed.

Pretty smokey in my neck of the swamp too.
It was much worse here on Tuesday. My eyes hurt if I was outside for too long. There are several large fires between 5 and 25 miles from my place.

My house should be safe no matter what because I have water on three sides of my neighborhood and I have a dog whose only purpose in life is to wet the perimeter of my property all day;)

Been smelling smoke here in St. Augustine all week now.We don't see it as much as the ocean breeze drives it inland.

It was crazy to see the smoke roll in today. Almost complete white out for a while.

Tampa has changed a bit since 78. I moved to Memphis around 1980 from Tampa and back here 86. The skyline is different. It is changing even now with condos being built downtown!

For the uninitiated to Tampa, the city has not had a residential population, in recent history. But now there are many condo projects underway. Strange.

I'm up here in Jacksonville and it has been quite smoky too. I too could only see about a couple of blocks about four days ago. At least were not getting ashed like the people north of here.
