Hi I am new here and had a quick question about me carrying a knife in my car withOUT a permit. Its a automatic/push button flip blade. The blade is exactly 3 inches. Is it legal for me to be carrying this knife in my car in a somewhat hidden compartment or glove box? Also I dont know if this matter, but im under the age of 18. Thanks, Mike.

so if I get pulled over by a cop and my car gets searched and the knife is WITHIN reach of me and hes like whats this for and I say its for self protection only sir. What would happen? nothing?...Mike.

Mike, I think you're a waking, talking felony waiting to make the newspaper. Grow up a little more, apply for and get your CCW license, and then obey the law. If you feel like you have to carry a knife in your car, get yourself a $5 Old Hickory butcher knife and leave your automatic in your sock drawer. Remember, they don't call jail the pokey for nothing! :D

I also forgot to mention that the knife will be used for self protection. Mike.

You should keep on forgetting to mention that.

You are minor. You are better off keeping a baseball bat, glove, and a ball in your car (in case you run into a game).

Most states consider it concealed in the car but I beleive you are legal if it is sheathed suspended from your belt/waist. I beleive this means it is legal this way on a public bus, car, or train. I have carried like this many times and was only hassled once by a bus driver who wanted me to put it away in my backpack. I obeyed just to prevent a scene as it seemed this would appease him until I got to my destination. What he was asking me to do was conceal it which is technically illegal but nothing happened though he called his dispatch to report an 8 inch blade on board how lame. I do know you can't bring onto planes obviously. Anybody know if I'm right?

Welcome to Bladeforums!

The original poster is a 16 year old Floridian who wants to know if it is OK for him to keep an automatic knife concealed in his car.

Laws vary greatly from state to state. Where are you?

I always tell leo's my knives are tools, which they are. When I was your age I carried in Florida, many different benchmade switchblades. I never had a problem. Now that I have a CWP. I do not have to worry about my Microtech OTF's or 6" Bladed Vaquero Grande or my Glock.
