Florida Knife Laws

I'll be taking a trip to Florida and was thinking of packing a sharp edge in my checked luggage.

Specifically, I will be in Orlando and in Daytona Beach.

Does anyone know what knife laws apply? I was considering an SAK one-handed opener with clip.

My thanks.

One of the few Blessings of living in the Sunshine state is being able to tote firearms and sharp implements at your own discretion..

We're glad you're coming. Have a great time while you are here!

How are the fixed blade laws there?

You can carry any knife you want as long as it is not concealed. The cops won't mess with you unless your doing something you shouldn't be anyway. I got my CWP so I can carry open or concealed knives and concealed anything. It's great here!

all good information! just to reiterate, in another way - FL has NO statute against the open carrying of any non-firearm weapon. however, it is a misdemeanor to conceal (w/o a permit) ANY knife other than "a common pocket knife" this leave alot of discretion to the officer. realistically ANY non auto folder is unlikely to cause a problem for you concealed. KEEP IN MIND: i said no STATE STATUTE, some municipalities may have ordinances against openly carrying a fixed blade.

and i agree with the poster(s) who said FL is a wonderful place to live as a knife/gun enthuiast :D

Local Orlando denizen here who's spent plenty of time in Daytona Beach.

Bring whatever you want. As long as you're smart with your carry, you're not going to be bothered with anything. I have an Oakley AP vest that I have a Benchmade Nimravus strapped to the back of, that I wear while hiking/backpacking/camping/screwing-around-in-the-backwoods/whatever, and I'll walk through most local stores with it on with no recourse. If that isn't asking for trouble, I don't know what is. Now given, I usually look like I've been in the woods at the time, so that might help, but my point is that knives are pretty easy to carry here. I carry an SMF to work every day. Some number of years ago, my friend did something dumb while driving downtown at night, and we were pulled over. I had an auto MOD Mark I on me (not a subtle knife), and the cops spent a minute deliberating, and because I explained that it was a tool for day to day life, and not for self defense, they gave it back to me. When I go out for a real jaunt in the woods I carry a Strider MTL-SS and nobody gives me a hard time, even when going into gas stations and such. Point being, you're pretty darn safe here.

Come on down! Oil hasn't swamped the east coast yet!

Thanks for that! I plan to visit Florida again and stay for a while!
