Hi all,

Buddy the Wonderdog and I are headed out sometime this weekend for Florida. I'm just sitting here waiting on the moving company to show up and pick up my stuff. Both dog and I are antsy to get on the road.

It is a long way from Sheridan, so should take about four days to make the trip (pending any bad weather).

Thanks to all who offered information on the Clewiston area.

Later,

Alan

Drive careful, and don't speed. Radar-detector: good.

It takes 12 hrs. just to go Pensacola-Miami- it's a long state.

Sorry about the sad hurricane advice in an earlier thread- but like the earthquakes in San Francisco, people have a short memory.

Keep us posted . Make sure you keep the windows open a crack so Wonder dog can smell/find his way back . He might have forgotten a particularly tasty bone he buried .

Hey Alan.
The catfish and specks are HOT right now.
I filled a 102 quart cooler in about 12 hours a couple of nights ago.
When you get there go over to the Clewiston Inn and get yourself a nice meal.
The place is very nice.
Hasta Luego ( thats Floridish)

Big move equals New Start.
Here's a prayer for a head's up from the Man Upstairs to ACStudios.

Wow. Just looked at Mapquest. Total Est. Time: 34 hours, 47 minutes Total Est. Distance: 2320.55 miles

Have a safe trip bud.

You are coming to Florida at a great time of the year. The weather is superb.

I rode 200 miles today going to a motorcycle event in Leesburg. It was a great day.

I don't want to talk about my sunburn. It's gunna hurt tomorrow.

But Steve; talking about it lessons the hurt. (or so I've been told)

Hmmm... my move has been postponed for the moment. I'm trying to keep calm about it though. The movers never showed up. Yikes!

Utilities have been turned off (or out of my name), landlord thinks I'm gone today, dog is antsy to go... but no moving company, or word from them.

After getting my boss involved in finding out about things, I decided to scratch something that was biting at the back of my brain for a couple of weeks now. I found this website... MovingScam.com <enter Jaws scary music sound bite>.

Yep... the company that is handling my move is listed on this site's BLACK LIST of companies to avoid at all costs. They are scammers, con-artists, scum. They broker deals where the hhgs are held hostage for allegedly being over the estimated weight, usually broken, soild, or with missing boxes. YIKES squared!!!

SO, I'm trying to get my new boss to back out of the contract (he chose the company, not me) and to send an advance so I can rent a truck/trailer to get me, the caravan, posessions and Buddy down to Florida in one piece.

Maybe I'll get out of town this week. Hope so, Buddy wants to get to Florida!

At Least You Caught It In Time!!!

I don't know why, but when times of moderate to great change occur in my life, the event is always crowded. Everything seems to happen at once. Just like what happened to you, Alan. Promises get broken. Belongings get lost, misdirection and even personal life stuff sometimes do an abrupt about-face during this time.

Alan, I think that the Movers did not show up at the agreed time and place voids the contract. You may already be 'out' of it. Read the fine print, or screw it- just firmly tell them that and send back any front money or you'll get the State's Attorney General.

Amen to that Munk! The brokerage company has put me on "priority standby" for a carrier, but I convinced my new boss that I wouldn't trust anyone this company contracts with at this point.

I'm hoping he'll EFT an advance to my account so I can rent a Budget truck and drive down myself. At least then my stuff arrives with me.

The dog won't be as comfortable in the rental truck, but he'll survive.

Alan

I don't think dogs or humans are comfortable in rental trucks.

When I moved outside of Bighorn, Wyoming, just two miles from Sheridan, I saw the beauty of the town. But I knew it was one of those towns that people hock everything just to get to, and then sell the rest just to get out.

How true. That is what I did to get here, but fortunately (or not) I don't have anything else to sell to get to Florida. But it is a company paid move :)

Doug, thanks for the heads-up on the Clewiston Inn. I'm hungry already :D

I think I have finally located a reputable mover to come get my stuff. If all works out well, I could be on the road tomorrow night :D

I was really hating the idea of getting a rental truck. I don't mind driving them, but Buddy would be miserable. There just isn't enough room for a big dog to stretch out in those cabs.

There are but few things more uncomfortable than riding with a cooped-up hairy dog who is frustrated and sloppy.

My first boyhood dog was much like Buddy. Looks like a perfect pal.

Andy,

That he is. Whoever named him in his early years hit it square on for his personality. I rescued him from the shelter when he was 6 months old. Reportedly he had three owners in that time period. Don't know why... he was pretty much a perfect dog from day one.

He has been my best friend since then (five years)... been with me through two relationships, a failed business, and six moves. He pretty much fills the term "Good Dog." :D
