Any of you guys use Fluid Film for your knives? I just got some in for use in a snow-blower. I sprayed my Gerber 06 out with brake cleaner, and then gave it a dose of Fluid Film. I'd say it is at least as good of a lube as Weapon Shield, and it is non-toxic too.

It seems like it would be a great all around knife dressing/lube. Try it out.

I've used it on my Spyderco Persistance. My only gripe is that it seems to pick up and hold dirt fairly well. I love it on my snow plows and auto tools however...

Excuse the 'bump', but I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not this stuff is truly non-toxic. On the can it says something like, "ingredients: refined petroleum". But then there's this whole, "wool wax formula" thing. Isn't anything made from petroleum toxic? Thanks.

From what I know of the product it is lanolin based. I don't consider it absolutely non-toxic though. I've been using it for probably five years. Good stuff. I recommend it. Check the MSDS sheet on their website for more detail.

Thought that I would bump this just to point out that USP grade mineral oil as sold in drug stores is both safe and a petroleum product. Sold as a laxitive as well as for external skin application as in baby oil and similar products. Vaseline is also a heavier mineral oil and again is non-toxic though not recommended for taking internally. In fact my teak steak boards, just received, have instructions to apply a liberal coat of mineral oil several days in succession prior to use for steak eating. Also to be applied occasionally after use and cleaning. The mineral oil treatment prevents the wood from absorbing steak juices.

Bought the steak planks as kinder to good knives when cutting steak.

Use it all the time. It collects dust and dirt like no other, but keeps the underside of the mower clean as a bean.

I hate the smell of it for some reason, but it works so well i get over it.
