Hi, I hate to go into details but I've been prescribed 40mg of fluoxetine per day and I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who have been on it that can share effects both good and bad that they have experienced taking it. There seems to be a bit about it online but it seems to be mostly product guides, advertorials etc. A 1st hand account from a real person will help a lot. Leave me a PM if you are uncomfortable discussing it in an open forum.

First hand accounts are useless other than letting you know what is possible.

This is a decent site for information: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/mono-95-...drugid=1774&drugname=Fluoxetine+Oral&source=0

Primarily the side effect that MOST people have the highest CHANCE of experiencing are issues such as insomnia (so take in the morning).

The key is that it affects the central nervous system so can alter anything related to that: moods, thoughts, energy, appetite, etc.

Unless the side effects are mild and gradually go away tell your doctor.

The other key with this med is that it takes at least a full month before a patient starts to feel any benefit, and up to three months before the full benefits are felt by the patient.

Thanks for the link... It's affecting my mood and not in a good way, hope this goes away. My appetite is down and I've lost 2kg withing the last week or so and I'm a very skinny guy. God knows I need a break right now...

Pharmer here too:

Like others said, some of the biggest keys are that it can cause insomnia (take it in the AM to help with this), and that it will take a few weeks to reach full effectiveness (so don't write it off right away if you don't feel like it's working). It can cause several other side effects as it's an older, more "dirty" drug, but you can talk with your MD or pharmacist about things that pop up to see if they might be related. And try not to stress about whether this one will take care of everything at once! There are a ton of good drugs on the market that you have time to explore if necessary.
