I searched The Gallery and found that I've not posted a picture of this terrific blade by John Perry, ABS Mastersmith from Mayflower, AR. It's a bear to photograph because the compound curves in the guard and pommel areas pick up reflections all over the room, plus it's long - 15 1/2 inches OAL.

The images I make are generally for my own enjoyment so I do whatever I wish with the backgrounds. In this case I was thinking of the Mediterranean theme, having just read a fascinating book entitled "Oracle" describing the source of the Greek Oracle of Delphi's unique ability to predict the future, give advice to the movers and shakers of those times and achieve an unusual clarity of thought during a trance-like state. The Oracle sat on a tall three-legged stool in a special mountaintop chamber/temple over a crack in the floor inhaling vapors that rose up through a complex set of geologic fissures in the earth. The vapors contained various substances that induced an unusual state of intoxication described as producing 'extreme clarity of thought.'

That's the Oracle in the background, sitting on her stool amidst cracks and fissures in the earth, arms lifted as if to mimic her elevated thoughts. I will say that John's knife is intoxicating in its perfection, my goal was extreme clarity with the camera and my prediction of the future is that this knife will remain one of my most prized posessions!

Classy Piece !! What kind of material did you use to diffuse the light ?

That's a great photo, I love it! And the knife ain't half bad either:)

Ok, the knife is really damn sweet in fact:)

For light diffusion I use those rolls of architectural and design tracing paper suspended from shower curtain rods mounted on the ceiling. It's 36 in. wide by maybe 25 yards. I can move that stuff around and tear off the wrinkled, torn or dirty sections to keep it fresh. I get it at an art supply store.
