This gorgeous Persian style folder has been created by Frank Niro of British Columbia, Canada. This is the second Niro that I have purchased. Frank is represented by Ron Lockhart who, in addition to selling knives for Frank, is also an avid Niro folder collector.

This work of art is 7 3/4" OAL with a 3 3/8" blade and is 4 1/2" when closed. Frank loves to work with Eggerling Damascus because it accepts the heat coloring so consistently well. The blade is etched and heat colored while the frame of the knife is also Eggerling Damascus which again is etched, heat colored and carved and then inlayed with MOP and mosaic abalone.

The thumbstud is inset with a MOP cabochon while the screws are 18 carat gold plated. The liners of this liner lock are colored titanium and both they and the back spring are highly file worked.

The shape of the knife and the structure of the blade allow for it to be displayed open without a stand and the blade does not touch the retaining surface.

This is a closer view of the carving and fluting of the handle and the inlays.

The action of the knife is smooth and positive with perfect fit and finish. It has become a centre piece to my collection of pearl handled knives.

What a great looking knife. I have seen many of Frank's knives being sold on eBay by Ron. Sometimes they don't get to the reserve bid. This is something I don't understand. The knives always look so darn good.

thanks everyone. glad you like the knife. Keith, Ron does sell a lot of knives by Frank and I'm sure this next generation will really do well. Keep an eye out on EBay.

Here is one I got in 2004 as I recall and shows Frank in his beginning of the carved bolster era and from it to the new one you can see the amazing progression.

I don't believe that this one is Eggerling damascus but Frank has decided to stick to Eggerling for all his work as I understand it.

This one works for me also. His application of the two pearls along with that swoopy fluting and design really elevate this piece. There is candy everywhere. Such coloring on that abalone teaser!

Thanks for sharing and showing us such clear images.
