Came up with an idea today to use an old flour sifter to dust borax over my Damascus billets. Thinking it should apply a nice even coating of flux?

Has anyone else tried this?

My flour sifter idea really sucked. The borax pours straight through. Got caught up in the excitement. Should have tried the sifter before posting!

It's not a bad idea Rick, you just need to find some smaller mesh screen to go in the bottom, maybe screen window screen, or something from MSC, they have anything.

I agree. That's what I use now, one of those little flour sifter cups with the little crank thing. I don't use the crank but, I use alot less flux now. :D

I use a SS pepper shaker it hold about 1/2 pint of borax and has large holes. I apply it to the billet over a old steel baking dish so I catch the excess to reuse. Most of the time the excess must be broken up into small grains. I use to apply it with a spoon over the dish. That work well also.
