Flying bear kills 2 Canadians in freak crash

In a way its funny.. hard to believe almost.. but wildlife on the roads is a serious concern for us up here. In Newfoundland moose are so numerous its quite dangerous to drive at dusk. They're the perfect height to take the top right off a car

Wow, talk about a freak accident! Terrible that three deaths occured, but the article does have an air of comedy about it.

Exactly, and we know people that had a family member decapitated. Usually bears go under and moose go through.

"Police said that the car, a Pontiac Sunfire, was lower to the ground than the SUV and had a more aerodynamic design, and may have propelled the male bear up into the air and into the other lane, the CBC reports...."

Police later admitted that they were as shocked as the bear at the sight of a functional Sunfire traveling at highway speeds. A recall has been issued, just in case there may be another one out there.

I've heard of similar cases like Upnorth's too. Anyone see that BMW + deer picture? Cars do crazy stuff to meat physics.

I hate when that happens. A little doe destroyed my car in northern Alberta, and itself. Deer innards were spread for metres...

Jeez, what a mess. It probably stunk also from the engine heat. I have only had a few close calls with deer. And I was hit in the chest by a low flying duck once, or what I guessed was a duck, while on a motorcycle at dusk. Scared the crap out of me and I almost wrecked. A couple of years later in the same general area a guy hit a deer on a bike and was killed....... I ran over a coyote once late at night in the north as I was coming into town. I heard it rolling, banging underneath. I hit the binders and looked back. It was down but it's head was up. The car behind me stopped also. I felt like crap and considered taking a tire iron to its head or ......... something, to put it out of its misery. I'm sure that it was in shock, but I had zero desire for it to suffer. Talking to the two women in the other car we decided to phone the police to dispatch the animal. I still feel crappy remembering the sounds of that dog banging and rolling underneath.

I was walking in Central Park in NYCity one summer afternoon. The Park is in the middle of Manhattan Island, tall buildings all around. Just inside the Park walls is a roadway, inside that is a gravel track for riding horses. I was walking near the Park entrance closest to the stables.

Suddenly, a horse came running up the track and turned towards the entrance / exit. It was in front of the traffic before the drivers realized what happened, headed for a taxi. That driver slowed and turned, but way too late. The horse rolled up onto the hood, its saddle smashed through the windshield, and it continued to roll 180 degrees off the hood, and walked towards the exit.

Evidently, the horse wasn't hurt, just shaken up, the taxi driver wasn't hurt, but he was wailing about the damage to the vehicle, and the police who happened by didn't even stay around. We never figured out where the rider was.

Noo Yawk. A day in the life of da sitty ...
