Ok so I’m in the process of booking my flights for Blade 2012, Got to get in early for cheep flights around here. I am looking for recommendations on accommodation. Is it best to just go with the Renaissance or the Sheraton shown on the Blade website???

Thanks a bunch for your advice and I look forward to meeting some of you! :)

This will be my six or seventh year in a row and for me, I would only stay at the Waverly Renaissance hotel because that is where all the night action is. You might be able to save a few dollars staying close by, but you will need to rent a car or do some walking! Stay there at least the first time, you won't regret it!

This is the best advice.
Here's some contact info:

Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel (a Marriott hotel)

Tell them that you are attending the BLADE Show, and request the special convention rate associated with it... Should be $150 +$22.40 in taxes & fees nightly for a standard 1 king size or 2 queen size bed(s) room.

:)

You're welcome! Looking forward to meeting you there. :)

Could you clarify a bit? Do you mean this hotel is a bit farther away from the convention than the Renaissance and the Sheraton? Not sure what you mean by night action--the Blade party or just general city night life. If you mean the latter, this could be the place for me (and my wife) too. If I stay at one of those two listed hotels, I'd need to do some walking to enjoy the rest of the city?

Sorry, I think I know what you meant to say, but I'm still understanding it two different ways and I just wanted to make sure... Thanks!

The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel (AKA The Waverly) is connected to the Cobb Convention Center, where the BLADE Show is held. It's only a very short stroll inside to get from the hotel to the Show. The Sheraton is across a multi lane street and is a bit of a PITA to get back & forth. Other hotels nearby require a taxi or rental car, or other wheeled option. The night life randucci is referring to is connected to the Show. This area is actually north(ish) of Atlanta proper, not in downtown Atlanta. On a map, it is near the area of Smyrna & Buckhead (just minutes from the intersection of I285 & I75)...suburbs of Atlanta.

Hey Mate, you should smuggle them some beer..... I mean BEER ...not the "sex in a boat" they are generally use to.... ;) But then, you are in WA....so I may need to educate YOU as well....:D

I wish I could swing the trip, I get to the US every few years but SWMBO tells me North Queensland is next.... :)

We get Boag's here in PA. Not easy to find, but it's around. snwbrdr202 turned me on to this brew.

The convention centre and the Waverley are linked so all the exhibitors and makers tend to stay at the Waverley and congregate there every night of the show. Every evening everyone tends to get together after dinner at the main Waverley Hotel bar which everyone calls "The Pit"

The atmosphere is really excellent and it is the biggest knife enthusiast party you have ever seen.

There are several hotels in nearby walking distance but frankly if you can afford the small extra amount to stay at the Waverley you should. It really gives you the complete Blade experience.

The show is held North of the city in what is essentially the suburbs so there really is nothing (apart from a shopping centre) to see within walking distance.
To get into Buckhead (were all the "city" action is) you will need to go by car or taxi.

This will be my third Blade and the above advice is excellent. Stay at the Waverley if you can.

Jaxx beat me to it but what the hell he is doing up this time of night is beyond me!:D

Yeah that is possibly the best thing to come out of a state (Tasmania) where it is mostly socially acceptable to marry your sister..... ;) . Though Tooheys Extra Dry is my regular libation I tend to grab Boags for a change.... or XXXX if I have some of those distant relatives, that I really don't like so much, visiting.... ;) :D

You're going to have a blast mate. Make sure you take millions of photos! And share them here. :)

Thanks, Jaxx, Steven :)

This is going to be a tough choice if I go with my wife. She'd want to stay more downtown to visit all the sites while I'd want to stay closer to Blade................ maybe I'll make the trip by myself :D

Look forward to meeting you!!!! Blade is going to be sooo much fun :D Will this be your first time?

Can not wait to meet you either.
Blade is definitely a sight to behold :)

Yes this is my first and really looking forward to it and meeting all you nice folk!

Lawrie.

Best beer is a free beer methinks!

You will love hanging with the busse family then!!!!

I stayed at the hampton INN off cumberland last year and plan to again. Its directly across the st from the mall/galleria on the oppsite side from where all the action is. The 15 minute walk saved me a cpl hundred last year :) Drunken walk home after drinken with Jerry was awesome, rushing back hungover in the hot am, late to the first offering the day after, not so much.
