Okay I know a lot of you guys flew to the Blade show,
and since you couldn't take INFI in your carry on,
what kind of self defense stuff did you board the
plane with? Any platic stuff like Kubotans, Stingers,
Kerambits or even flashlights and scarfs.

Scarfs???? is that some kind of ancient shoa lin martial art weapon??:p

You can use items like scarfs for blocking, chokeing, as a restraint device, or even just use it as a distraction. But always remember your mind is your best weapon, use it wisely.:)

Since 9-11-01 all I have carried on planes is a old credit card that I sharpened the edges on "it took a while to get it right" and about 15 marbles in my pocket. Believe me you wouldn't want to be struck with 15 marbles, you would feel like Tyson did after the title fight.:D

Are you serious about the marble thing? Do you throw them in the attackers face or something? I could imagine having a pouch with marbles in it that could be swung like a bolo snare.
In high school( I just graduated) they would suspend kids who brought knives to school( I actually accidentally brought my Sebenza and BM-e to school on occasion). I think that a sharpened No.2 pencil could inflict greater trauma than knife...and they encouraged us to even carry No.2 pencils to class! :):):)
I have heard of titanium pens being used as weapons. In my limited knowledge, slicing an attacker won't disable them right away. Stabbing however tends to disable because of greater trauma. I have always thought that a retractable key bank(the ones that kinda look like a yo-yo) would make a fierce self defense tool.

Very serious, you can carry them in a sock. If it's ever seen most people would just think it's unusual to see someone these days playing with marbles, but unroll the sock and you have a great inpact weapon.

Just use your imagination, anything can be a potential weapon. I use to work in a prison, I've seen everything from improvised guns, knives made of garbage bags "these can be sharp enough to shave with". You name it and there is probably a way to make a effective weapon out of it.

You mentioned a pencil, that is a very good weapon. After being soaked in water and let dry 2 or 3 times it's almost as hard as concrete. I saw a guy that had been stabbed 28 times with the same pencil before the guy stopped, and the pencil was intact.

Raden, Remind me to stay out of that prison. 28 times with a pencil? OUUUUCH !!!! . . . . Kinda gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "get the lead out" ;)

My guess on the garbage bags-
-Obtain a bunch of plastic bags over time to not arouse suspcion
-Scoop up a few handfulls of soil, dirt, sand every day in the yard
until you have enough to fill a small box
-Moisten the soil, dirt, etc, slightly, and using whatever tools
come to hand (teaspoon?) scoop out a rough knife shaped mold (as
big as the Behemoth if you want!)
-Get a large coffee can
-Buy a Sterno pad from one of the guards ("it's so cold in here at
night, and I'm so lonely...uh, maybe that's not the best approach)
-Heat the can to the "proper" temperature
-Hold a small portion of plastic bag near the open flame and as it
melts catch it in the can. Repeat this until you have about a half
inch of molten plastic in the bottom of the can at a pretty
constant temp
-Then just feed plastic bags into the can; they'll melt instead of
burning.
-When you've got enough melted plastic, pour it in your mold
-Allow to cool (differential heat treatments are not required)
-Sharpen against your concrete wall. Don't worry too much about
edge geometry or symmetry.
-Have fun!

You only need one bag. Have you ever heated plastic and watched it get hard as heck. It's just a matter of heating and folding over and over. Most are sharpened on the concrete floor. It will take some time and practice. I use to have a couple I got in cell searches, if I can find one I'll post some pics. I also found a set of nunchucks made of garbage bags they had rocks for weight, a very nice weapon. It's now in the prison weapon display. You have to remember these guys have 24/7 to work on and think of ways to hurt you.

A mind is a Terrible thing to waste!

Very good point, Raden. Thanks for your observations from the inside, which serve to reinforce this idea.

This is very much in line with a favorite belief of mine, which is a slight variation of the second quote in my sig block.
"The human mind is the only weapon in the world. The things we usually classify as weapons are just mechanisms to implement its will. The mind is the weapon, everything else is a tool."

I don't brush my teeth or bathe for at least a week before
any flight...then a huge workout and spagetti with garlic sauce
and I'm off to me destination...people leave me alone on planes,
for I be da man...da stinky man
