Being new, I'd imagine this has come up and I've missed it.

I'd like to know who flies with their Sebenzas.

Currently I only have a large. I'd guess it wouldn't be a good idea to try to fly with it. I'm thinking a getting a small for such situations. The small should pass without a problem.....right?????

I just flew to Las Vegas last weekend on Southwest Airlines. Dropped my small Sebenza into the bowl as I went through the metal detector. Outbound the security person did not even give it a second look. He just handed me back the bowl. Inbound the security guy pulled the Sebenza from its sheath but he did not open it. Just pushed it back into the sheath ands handed it to me. I believe that the criteria for knives to be allowed on the plane is a 3" blade. I would love to have a copy of the FAA regulation in case I ever bump into a security person that is unfamiliar with the rules.

I tried to fly my Sebenza once, either the string was too heavy or the tail I made wasn't long enough!

Couldn't resist

I fly with mine all the time. I just pack in my laptop case and send it through the x-ray machine. Never had a problem. When I get on the plane I take it out and put it in my pocket.

Art, I also fly alot. Is your sebbie large or small ?? (I have a large sebbie and would love to carry it on board as well).

By the way, I have been turned away when found that I was carrying - as a money clip - a small (2.75 inch) serrated Michael Walker custom Spyderco.

I actually think the size limit is 4 inches, unless the blade is serrated. They don't like the looks of those serrated blades...

A knife dealer showed me a good trick. He places a $100 bill around the rest of his cash, stuffs same under the clip of the knife he's carrying, and puts it in the "change" bowl. The minimum wage security types won't even touch it, much less examine it! Contender: did you have cash in your money clip knife?

Did you have the blade OPEN? It acts as an airfoil.

Hoodoo

The low, hoarse purr of the whirling stone—the light-press’d blade,
Diffusing, dropping, sideways-darting, in tiny showers of gold,
Sparkles from the wheel.
