The first week in April my wife , daughter and I are flying to Washington and then to Virginia to visit my step-daughter and husband in Norfolk, Virginia. I would like to bring my TNT. If I pack it in my check-in luggage, will there be a problem? I am of the opinion that small folding knives in checked luggage are OK. I long for the days when pocket knives could be carried with you. Those days I'm afraid won't be back.

As long as you behave and dont fit any wierd profile (you might be in trouble there Scott!) they arent going to bother you. You can take a handgun in your suitcase AS LONG AS you declare it and it is UNLOADED and in a locked handgun case. I usually have one of the above and a couple of dozen knives when I travel. So far so good!! ;)

Be aware that all airlines have different policies. Some simply let you place restricted items in your checked baggage and others will inspect your baggage and ask you to identify the restricted items that you have packed. You should inquire with your carrier before you arrive at the airpport so that you will have no surprises.

I've taken to carrying a padded mailing envelope (one of the self-sealing kinds), self-addressed and with first class postage for 8 oz. on it when I fly. So far I haven't needed it, but if there is ever a problem, I figure it is better to take a chance on the post office then on making a contribution to some "security" guards collection.

By the way, anybody ever check on what happens to to those "confiscated" items?
