I know kubatons are prohibited but what if I installed a blunt tip on my invistigator pen...can I fly with that? I've been traveling a lot lately and would like to take my pen with me. Anyone have any experience with this?

What happens when you get to the checkpoint and the tsa agent says "sorry, can't bring it"?

I can only describe my experience. I've flown with my blunt tip investigator in my carry-on many, many times.

Pretty sure I can mail it to myself from the airport but that's the exact situation I'm trying to avoid.

Thanks Hammer. I realize every situation is different but it's nice to know it has been done before.

I have flown with an Investigator with the bullet style tip, an Extreme Duty and a Ti-Bolt for that matter, they have never been drawn any attention even though they are clearly seen on the x-ray. I travel with Pentel mechanical pencils that have also never drawn attention, I wouldn't want to be stabbed with one of those.

I've flown w/ mine (std. bullet tipped aluminum) and even once forgot to remove it from my pocket. In the full body machine..I was asked "what's there...agent pointing to cargo pocket on my shorts...oh, just my pen...pulled from pocket and presented for visual...not an eyebrow raised. Grabbed my shorts as they always try to fall when my belt is removed...gathered my personal items and socked footed over out of the way to redress.

It's just a pen. I do suggest carrying a small memo-type pad along. Clip the pen to the note pad and set it in the tray w/ your belt and other items. Or just throw it into a pocket on your carry-on.

I always have a copper extreme when flying. One time they dug it out and they seemed disappointed because it was only a pen. They did comment on the weight and I just shrugged. I would think the investigator would be good to go all day.

I've carried an Investigator (copper) or ED (alu) on every plane trip I've been on since getting them--as carry-on--without trouble, and that's with the default sharper tip, not a blunt tip. I always put the cap on the back end though so the pen tip shows.

Mine was in my pocket this past Sunday, dropped it in the tray with my watch, wallet, etc. no issues
