Hi All,
on tuesday I'll be flying to Canada for two weeks in the bush. I was going to take my bottle of polar pure but had one concern.
I know that they're cracking down on iodine because it's used in the manufacture of drugs. Will sniffer dogs identify the smell of iodine and sound the alarm?

I feel silly even asking, but I want to make sure!

no worries about iodine, should be no problem.

just keep the bottle in the open and not hidden.

well if you feel at risk, you could always stop by your local Mountain Equipment Co-op once you get here to canada and pick up some last minute items that you might need or forgot to pack. it might be a good idea just incase.

i had micropur tabs on my flight to australia and didnt get hastled for it so i think u might be safe.

i'd play it safe and just stock up in Canada at MEC or the nearest outdoors store or Canadian Tire

I'm just paranoid I think.
I've decided to take my fallkniven F1 and folding saw for instance. Would love to take along a scandi as well, but am wondering if I'd get questioned about why I have so many knives....

fixed blade knives are perfectly legal in canada. Put them in your checked baggage or (prefered method): mail them ahead with insurance added. Your fine carrying/wearing a fixed blade as long as you are not in downtown cores or bars or clubs etc etc etc.

you can buy a frosts mora scandi at Mountain Equipment co-op for around 10 bux.

i flew to australia and back with 3 knives in my bag and had no problems. i dont think canada customs even asked me about them.

if you declare that they are for camping it shouldnt be a problem.

again, i highly suggest you stop by mountain equipment co-op or another outdoor store to pick up some last minute supplies that you might need.

enjoy your trip here. i'd suggest coming over the BC as well if you ever want to experience every single type of terrain in north america in one place.

we have boreal forests, deserts and everything else under the sun :D
