FMA in Japan

Just curious, does anybody know if the FMA took root in Japan? I know, in the early 70's, GM Presas did a demo in Japan.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

What I was told by Erning when I was in college is: they showed what an Arnis could do. They did it using real blades instead of the arnis, the same as what the Japanese did with thier Sammurai. It has nothing to do with the FMA root (from Japan). It was a sort of demo of real weaponry in martial arts.
