i'm looking for something for solitary practice- hitting, checking and such, both with rattan sticks and with foam-covered sticks. something maybe that can be mounted around a Wave bag or even mounted to a wall...guess it should have some kind of flexible or adjustable "arm" or stick. anybody ever seen such a creature??
Kelvin??? anything even remotely like what i'm trying to describe??

You need:
2- 1 1/2" x 3' wooden dowels
1- 6' section of rope

Drill hole in the end of one of the dowels, and the center of the other one.

Put a knot in the rope so the knot hangs at shoulder height... the center hole dowel rests on top of the knot, and this is your stick dummies arms. Hang the other dowel from the bottom of the rope so it hangs at leg level. Hang the stick dummy and mark the head with a piece of tape. Now you have a stick dummy which will jump around when hit, and will help increase your eye hand coordination with the stick(s).

Hope this makes since.... I pounded it out quickly on the keyboard. Let me know if you have any questions.

KELT,

There's a contraption called the Comtech Cross that I recently found out about. I haven't built it yet. It can be made from foam covered PVC or foam covered 2" diameter rattan and bungee cords to provide motion. I read that it can be very dangerous when it starts swinging at good speed. Go to James Keating's website and e-mail him for more info.

Here's part of an e-mail that I received from another FMA practitioner on the Comtech Cross:

"The Comtech Cross is basically just four lengths of PVC attached at the center by
a four-way fitting. Stuff it with rags/papers, and wrap the whole thing up
with duct-tape ( ah yes, where would the American "handyman" be without his
faithful duct-tape ) and voila' one Comtech Cross. Hang the sucker up from a
ceiling joist, convenient tree-limb
or what have you and you're ready to go. The article also details some
different types of drills and exercizes you can do with it."
