Thought I'd post this over here as well, was looking for a way to add this bead onto a leather braid to assist in drawing the knife, and came up with this method that seems to work great, like to use some metal beads or Ti sometime.
I put the leather through the knife handle
then put the two ends through the bead
then wrap around the outside of the bead and go back through again.
Works well and is self locking too!
By hooking your pinky beneath the bead, makes for a great stop to help draw the knife out.

That looks great! I love it! Easy to understand too.

Thanks Pendentive and Eddie, the leather is quite soft and supple, provided by WildRose, aka Chuck, elkskin I believe, works great. Thanks again for that box Chuck!

You can make the bead closer or further away as you like, pretty easy to do, but something that most might not think to try.

Thanks,Gary, that's pretty neat and simple. The pictures are really good, too. That sure beats trying to tie a knot and have it hold.

Thanks John, actually the pictures are made on my flat bed scanner, works pretty well for that, good depth of field.

One other tip, when you go to put the leather through the second time, use a paper clip to push the leather through the bead.

I was fashioning a leather fob for my David Boye Cobalt folder when it struck
me, I could "lightly" dye the coarse side of the elk skin black, so when I
braided the leather near the handle, you end up with alternating colours for a
nice contrast! Now, that elkskin is like a SPONGE so you must define "lightly"
as very very lightly otherwise it will bleed through. Let dry for an hour at
least and then I rubbed in some Browning wax coat, thanks RJ and it gives
the leather a nice weight and feel to it.
The bead is one my daughter made for me back in highschool, I chose the
blue to go along with the Cobalt blue handle of the knife, since the blade is
made of cast cobalt

You put the leather through the knife first, then on one side, cut two slits
with about the width of the leather apart from each other. Then push the
other piece of leather through one of the slits, then cut two slots on the
other length of leather and continue to braid the leather together. This
prevents the fob interferring with the blade opening or closing.

Thought the fob idea was a good one before. I think the brade is good looking too. I like it. Thanks for the ideas.
