Folks were talking about fobs or lanyards on a knife and thought I'd post this method of making a fob using deer skin; The knife below is made by Mike Irie, his Sport 400 model.

The fob is made by cutting 3 slits into the leather. Put the leather through the knife and find where you want to start the braid, mark it and take the leather back out. Cut two slits close together on one side, and on the opposite side cut one slit so it's mid way between the other two, as shown below.

Put the leather back through the throng hole, thread the side with the one slit through the side with the two slits, then thread the side with the two slits through the single hole and finish by threading the single side back through the remaining hole.

Hope that helps you guys and gals.

VERY nice sheath, Gary! I really liked it and the others I saw on your page.
May I ask how do you produce this effect of raized letters on the dark textured background area? Do you carve leather or press it down with some tools?
Sorry that the question is not on topic.

Thanks. I always wondered how to do that. Never had a chance to take one apart to figure it out.

Thanks guys, it's one of my favorite knives, so I made the sheath a little special, notice the way the right side is shaped or curved to match the angle of the knife? I wet the leather and pull at an angle to make it go that direction.

AlexI, in regards to the tooling, the letter is initially stamped in with a regular letter stamp, then I used a swivel knife to cut the frame around the area and took a texture stamp and very carefully stamped in the texture you see there, leaving a couple of islands of smooth leather for contrast, takes a while, stamping around and inside the letter is touchy.
