Foldable push dagger

I was looking for knife patterns the other day and stumbled upon a foldable push dagger patent. It says the inventor was Kenneth W. Guth and that he invented this particular design back in 1982. It's a very interesting design and I was curious if anyone has ever seen or heard of this particular design? Or even the inventor? I found a downloadable pdf of the patent with some schematics, it was free and it would seem that this design would be open to someone to make. I don't know anything about patents or what the legal ramifications would be if it's not able to be made.

After finding this I did a small amount of looking around. I found a different foldable push dagger that was basically lock back that stayed open (does that make sense?). I think Schrade made it, but not sure. Although, that design is different than Kenneth's.

Does anyone have a knife like this? Has anyone seen a knife like this or heard of one? What do you think of the Would it work, or would it be a flop?

That's pretty cool. Can't say that I've seen one before.

IMO, for such a single purpose tool it's a little to complex to be practical.

Any idea of how it is meant to be carried? Pocket clip? Tip up/down? Sheath?

Why?

Supposedly when it's being used as designed it's being thrusted rapidly at high speed. I can imagine anyone who carries such a device wouldn't want a folding mechanism on a blade which is going to experience a lot of repeated stress in all directions.

I would also imagine trying to fiddle with a folding mechanism on a knife that size would get finicky in the one situation where a blade like this would be used.

I recall Browning had a folding hunter that could have the blade locked in the transverse position. I only saw pictures, never held it.

It's quite an advantage for someone seeking a more concealable push-dagger, usually a tough one to carry discretely. I think it's interesting....

Benchwarmer, Judging from the rest of the .pdf that I have it doesn't show anything about a pocket clip so I assume it would just ride in the pocket. I guess it would depend on how snug the blade would be inside the handle to determine tip up or down.

Colorodo, that's similar to the Schrade that I mentioned.

asdf12345, I don't think I would ever really use something like this as a defense weapon. Now that I'm thinking about it, whatever locking mechanism it has would have to be pretty sturdy and deployment would have to be quick. I would much rather have "fixed blade" push dagger.

All in all I think it's a pretty cool little knife. I would love to see someone try to make this design just to see how difficult it would be.

Paul Chen CAS made something similar.
