Hi All,
I have been looking for a Folded Sanmai Clay Tempered Katana or Ninja Sword. I have seen several on Ebay from China for like $100-$250 plus shipping ($70), and you can customize them the way you want. Are these the real thing or knockoffs with fake blades and simulated blade lines. Can anyone compete with those prices here? If so, please direct me where I can buy them.
Thanks,
Scott

at that price they are absolutely fake in terms of being japanese blades.

If you are lucky you might get a cheap sword which is stock removal and differentially tempered. You might also get a stamped piece of aluminum with chemical etch.

Anyone who tries to sell you a 'ninja sword' is either bullshitting or very ignorant. (there is no such thing)

I realize that are were never Ninja swords in History.

Not so sure about that. I can't guarantee they existed, but I can't say for sure they didn't.

A fact is that if a ninja has a katana, it's probably because he stole it. Not everyone could have a real katana and the "real ninja swords" were probably simply cheaper swords forged with scrap, so not as good as katanas, but they could afford to lose them.

The sword posted in the link has a wire brushed hamon.... odd considering it is being sold as San Mai.

If you want a Japanese sword like object, get a Cheness, or better yet a used Oni. At least these companies are honest about what they sell, and have a price point that is not painful.

FYI: ninjas didnt carry katana, no need when you can uppercut a head right off.

Ninjas did carry swords called Ninjato, shinobi katana - more along the lines of a wakizashi on the short side. They're reputed to have had less curvature than samurai swords, but were probably not entirely straight, as you see in some modern incarnations.

Look up Paul Chen and see what is offered. There are some very good quality Katana's available from Chen....
