Ray,

A Folder for "Woods carry" should be so secure that you won't lose it. Their's nothing as bad as discovering you lost your knife that you clipped to/in your pocket or to your pack.

If loosing it could put you into problems even think about using a lanyard as extra security maesure.

On Ebay there was some guy selling Al Mar SERE 2000's one sold for $110 the other for $117.50 brand new in box.

Another method for securing a folding knife to a pack strap uses a rubber band. First attach the knife to the pack strap using the clip. Then put the rubber band through the lanyard hole and loop it through the other end of the band to secure it to the knife. Then take the big loop and pull it toward the pivot end of the knife, across the pack strap on the opposite of the clip, and over the pivot end. John Larsen wrote about this method in the first issue of "Tactical Knives" a couple of years ago. He said it would even survive a parachute jump if done right.

I would recommend the lanyard idea (they call them "dummy-cords" in the Army).
When I was active-duty and in the field I usually had several items attached to me (knive, KYK-13, CEOI booklet, strob-light, flashlight, and compass).
And sometimes the cord itself is very useful for other tasks.

I definitely recommend a lanyard. I use a clip type device sold in fly fishing stores that allows me to unhook the knife from the lanyard, which is attached to my belt. I put a small loop of rope through the lanyard hole, attach the clip to the loop and tie the lanyard to my belt. This has saved me more than once, especially when I'm wearing lightweight nylon pants, which are very "slippery." My pocket knife wants to slide out of the pocket when I'm sitting in my canoe, for instance.

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

Hi Ray,

I can't comment on the SERE 2000 as I have not held it in my hands.
With some luck I will in about 4 weeks and I'll let you know what I think of it then.

I was still hoping that my Military would arrive after 6+ weeks around the World by USPS but up till now nothing

, my Military River City neck sheath will stay empty I guess.

Because you do not need "street fighter quick draw" capability, a good snapped over secure sheath/holster is the way to go.

I have an AlMarSERE2K and feel as though the fit and finish is almost on par with the Sebenza. It's more than half the knife for a third the price. Heven't used it yet in the field so I can not report. If I'm only half as enthusiastic about it as Jeff Randall I guess I could start a fan club.

When afield, I use the fixed blade as the "do everything - rough use implement" and the folder for the slicing of food prep and the like. This way I keep one blade nice for nice work and one blade grungy for the gungy work.

I am going to get a nylon sheath to carry my folder.Nimrod sounds like 2000 is one heck of a knife.I had a chance to buy one when they first came out for $90.Guess I was a dummy.
