After considerable planning and countless hours of hard work, I'm happy to say that I have completed my first folder design! :D A lot of people have been asking for me to come out with a folder for a LONG time!

I've decided to call this model the "Enigma"; a very fitting name considering the complexity of building a quality liner lock!

The Enigma was designed to be a general EDC blade with highly refined ergonomics and excellent edge geometry. The blade was hollow ground on both sides using a 14" contact wheel, resulting in a very high grind and a thin edge.

The blade is finished in a two tone satin finish.

The handle is extremely comfortable, and fits well in both small and large hands.

The lockup is absolutely perfect; Zero horizontal or vertical blade play! The lockup is early, just as it should be on a new folder.

The pivot and stop pin are both heat treated, ensuring that the knife will not wear prematurely. The liners are .08" AL64V titanium. This thickness of liner is a good balance of strength to weight.

More Enigmas are in the works! A few design changes will be made. Subsequent examples of this model will not have a recurve blade, and I will likely have different pivot styles available. I may eventually go with a hidden stop pin design, but I haven't decided yet.

I'll probably be keeping this one, as it is the first folder I have ever made.

While this was a bit of a challenge, I really enjoyed making this folder! So much so, that I'm probably going to concentrate on making folders for a while.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics!

Hello!

Looks very interesting! Do you have a closed full side view to share?

May I ask, why you decided against a framelock design on this one (might sound a bit odd, but I for one much prefer framelocks to liner constructions, especially in "fresh" knives - this one with a framelock and you would have me hooked).

As an EDC, do you have plans on incorporating a clip?

Regards,
Alex

Great looking ergonomics! Love the linerlocks - I think they are much easier to grip and feel more substantial. Any jimping on the top? Plans for a flipper version?......

looks great! somehow reminds me of some of the allen folts folders ive seen

Thanks!

Good eye! I learned how to make knives from Alan.

A lot of his design sense has rubbed off on me, which is a good thing.

Alan helped greatly in making this design a reality. I actually made most of the knife while visiting his shop for a few days.

I'll try to get a picture of the knife in the closed position up later this week.

I generally prefer liner locks over frame locks for ergonomic reasons. I like well contoured, ergonomic handles.

The lock side of a frame lock is flat. Contoured handles on both sides of the knife are more comfortable and aesthetic IMO.

I'll probably make a frame lock version at some point; just not sure when.

I'll eventually add a clip. I wasn't really in a hurry to add one since I intend on keeping this model for myself.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

I plan on doing some sort of jimping on future models. This was really just a prototype/proof of concept knife.

I do want to make a flipper version at some point, but will have to iron out all the details/geometry first.

Hello!

Thank you for the feedback? Also, count me in for that framelock! :)

Alex

That's a beauty! I like the Red too.
Tanto also??
Rolf

Red? You mean orange? :D

A tanto is a possiblity, although I might have to change the design slightly for it to work.
